'The eyes have it!” Papu in Pushkar, India by Stuart-Cohen on Flickr.
She is a remarkable woman with an equally remarkable story. Papu is a gypsy in the home of the original gypsies - Rajasthan. I met Papu in Pushkar selling trinkets at her shop which was nothing more than a stall on four wheels. Her eyes were magnetic. She wanted to sell me anklets. I spent a day with her and her husband Chotu and sister Manori who make their money selling things to tourists. I have since discovered that Papu is a bit of a local celebrity having been photographed countless times by photographers from all over the world. I suspect she makes a bit of extra cash from posing for photographers which I guess makes her a professional model of sorts. Ironically, anywhere else and she’d be earning a Kings Ransom as a model on the catwalks of Paris. Her photo now appears on numerous websites including one devoted almost entirely to her which was set up to raise money for dowry victims.http://www.papu.nl/ There’s a lot more to this story but I haven’t got the space to tell it here suffice to say she is obviously very beautiful.
